About

We Are Blackness was founded in 2024, out of a deep desire to celebrate and honor African heritage. As James Baldwin wrote in The Fire Next Time: “Know from whence you came. If you know whence you came, there are absolutely no limitations to where you can go.” We Are Blackness is the fruit of a multicultural collaboration, made to reflect a rich and vibrant Afro-descendant identity, to honor the past and embrace the future, so that our heritage carries through time.

Our mission is to encourage pride and self-affirmation within the Afro-descendant community, through designs that honor its stories and celebrate its identity.

Each piece is a tribute to our roots and an invitation to face what comes next with boldness. We want our clothing to be a force for change, and to make people think.

Three values run through everything we make:

Pride. We hold pride in ourselves and in our African roots, and we encourage everyone to wear their identity with confidence.

Heritage. We believe in passing on our African history, and in honoring it.

Activism. Pride in oneself and knowledge of one's history are powerful drivers of change. They raise awareness, and they carry emancipation forward within our community.
