Neg Mawon
Nèg mawon. The ones who refused. Across the Caribbean, enslaved men and women fled the plantations for the hills and forests, and built free communities beyond the reach of the colonial order. In Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica and beyond, marronnage was freedom taken, not given, and a legacy every person of African descent can carry.
This collection carries two names. Mawon, for all who ran. Solitude, for the Guadeloupean heroine who took up arms in 1802 against the return of slavery, and paid for it with her life.
Heavyweight cotton, four colorways, 50 pieces per design. Wear it like a refusal.
